Dear reader,

This writing is addressed to you, as you may be a person curious to know about the process of explainer video production; Or probably, you maybe a client in need of an explainer video to promote your business product or a service.

But, whatever. Let’s look into a real case study of a video made for an overseas client of ours: Apps Hub – an app development unit based in Bahrain. Get to know how one’s idea is getting realised through, as our client was very keen about their newly starting services in Bahrain.

Our client’s requirement was to make the video in two languages (Arabic and English), as they are known to the fact we do videos in different languages.; Moreover, it was a short character animated explainer video; and as with any other animated video, it involved the following stages of production:

Step 1: Research & Writing

First, we started by identifying what type of video the client wanted. A normal explainer video, an extension video, or a screencast? And, what was the purpose of the video: to sell, explain, teach or train? Should the tone be formal or informal? Our primary goal was to share our experience and answer all of your potential customers’ questions and concerns.

With all the necessary input from the client, began the most important part of a video production, which is scripting. It doesn’t matter whether the video is of a high quality or a mediocre one; but, if the script isn’t good, ideas won’t convert well. As our client’s intention was to make a short video on their service of web and software development, the script was written as such considering all the necessary points: how important their service during modern business age.

First, we developed the English script and then our translators, translated it to Arabic.

Step 2: Storyboarding & Illustration

The storyboard process, with the aid of approved script, helped us to make sure the visual style and story are matching the client’s expectation. But, it actually surprised us how much it exactly reflected the story and scripting.

And, the lesser deviations made sure of making the number of revisions to a minimum count once the video gets completed. At this stage, as our video had characters (though two in number), we collaborated with the client on the design and appearance of each character as well, before starting in on the illustration part.

The people from Apps Hub were quite happy as the illustration panels turned out, since we matched the illustration color scheme based on their logo color (Red)!

Step 3: Voiceover Recording

Now, the step entered the stage of actual video production. Before the animation of illustrations began, the necessary step was to send the narration script for voiceover recording. We sent them the professional English as well as Arabic voice samples. From the samples of voices we sent, the client picked the one that fit their brand, style and the required accent. For the specific voiceover type required by them, we located the right voice talent for the project and recorded the voice.

We, then, uploaded the audio file for them to listen, give feedback and be able to request any changes if needed.

Step 4: Animation

Then, with the finalized voice recorded and the illustrations created, we started building the first draft of your video. Upon completion, we shared the video with the people on the other end, so that they can provide comments, suggestions and changes. Depending on the package the client had already chosen, the video went through required number of revisions.

And with the necessary music and sound effects added, it was finally delivered to the client.
